About WIC
WIC is a contemporary Afro-diasporic cultural platform exploring art, identity, creativity and place through publishing, experiences and conversation.
Rooted in the Caribbean and informed by the wider African diaspora, WIC celebrates the people, ideas and aesthetics shaping culture across borders. Through our magazine, cultural programming, creative collaborations and storytelling, we create opportunities for discovery, dialogue and creative exchange between disciplines, regions and generations.
We believe culture is not confined to galleries or institutions. It lives in our archives and everyday rituals, in fashion, music, performance, design, food, landscape and collective memory. WIC documents these expressions while creating new spaces for artists, thinkers, collectors and culturally curious individuals to connect.
At its core, WIC is a creative studio and cultural platform dedicated to preserving cultural memory, supporting creative talent and demonstrating the enduring influence of Afro-diasporic culture, particularly through the Caribbean and the regions it has shaped.
About the Founder
Alyssa Janae is a Caymanian historian and multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans self-portraiture, abstract art, poetry, styling, and photography. Rooted in cultural preservation and personal narrative, her work examines identity, memory, and the Caribbean diaspora through a distinctly contemporary lens.
She is the 2023–2024 recipient of the prestigious National Gallery Bendel Hydes Emerging Artist Award, a testament to her evolving influence within the visual arts. Alyssa holds a BA in Styling and Production and an MA in Creative Direction for Fashion Media, blending academic insight with an intuitive creative approach.
Alyssa is also the founder of the Cayman Heritage Guide, a cultural preservation platform dedicated to celebrating and documenting the heritage of the Cayman Islands. In her current roles as a stylist and creative director, Alyssa continues to bridge the worlds of fashion, storytelling, and art, crafting work that challenges boundaries while honoring her Caribbean roots.
